Happiness at a Wrestling Tournament?
Emilee Eppler

Try spending an afternoon at a wrestling tournament if you want a distraction from this economy...or anything else!

Nothing like 12, 14, 16 hour days watching 1200 kids (and their lunatic parents, myself sometimes included!) crammed into a sweaty, stinky gym.

Let me know if you survived (or are currently trying to survive) being a wrestling parent/grandparent.

Wrestling is INTENSE. Kids cry. Parents cry. Coaches cry. It’s not for the faint of heart!

Those of you who have experienced it understand why this photo of Shine a few weeks ago makes me so happy.

Right before his bout, a tech glitch caused a really long delay so Shine (on the right) and his competitor started playing “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” while they waited on the mat. Seems the ref and people working the table across the gym enjoyed it too. Several strangers even took photos!

I guess we all needed the smile. Seeing two kids be kids, taking a break from the pressure and just being happy!
Probably a lesson there for us grownups, right?

I’ll be honest. Sometimes I have to force myself to be productive at home this time of year. No football on TV. Cold, dreary weather. Sometimes I just want to be a hermit and watch Dateline reruns all weekend.

Tell me I’m not alone!

How are you surviving winter? My personal recipe is:

Staying on Mission…living out God's purpose for my life as a wife, momma and making sure our client families are well!

If I can get some of that into each day, it’s a happy one!

I’ve also found simple things bring me joy, even when I’m stressed or it’s gloomy outside.

Laughing with the people I love. Playing Uno with Shine and Eddy. Taking a walk. Visiting the library. Mailing someone a note.

Are you making time for the people and things that make you happy? If not, I encourage you to try. Start small if you need to. A few minutes a day will go a long way!

Will you write back and let me know what’s keeping you happy this Winter? I’m excited to hear from you.

Be happy!

Emilee
